The Challenge Starts

This summer I will be climbing Mount Rainier and more importantly, raising valuable funds for breast cancer research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Reasearch Center through the Climb to Fight Breast Cancer. Thanks! (PLEASE USE THE BROWN "MAKE A DONATION" BUTTON BELOW)

Why am I doing this?

My wife is a survivor! She's my inspiration.

I'm highly motivated to participate in this climb! I, like many of you, have had my life affected by breast cancer. Lets get together and make the future for our mothers, sisters and daughters, cancer free. This combined with my love of the mountains....and THE Mountain....it's a no brainer.

The Challenge.

Since this is a charity climb, the stakes are high. I must raise $2500 by April 2nd, 2010, and have a total of $5000 raised by June 3rd, 2010. When I first heard this figures, I thought "no way!". But after talking with Lisa about it, and knowing that I'd have her full supprt, I began to think I really could do this!

Happy New Year!

I can hardly believe it's going to be 2010!

Here's a pic from our run on Alki on Christmas Day!

Maybe we'll get out for a run on New Year's Day.

An update 'thank you'!

Today we pushed past the $1000 mark and now stand at $1100! Big things to come in 2010! Maybe a couple fundraising parties, some auctions, and more fun!

Tonight Lisa and I have a little interview with Keri over at the West Seattle Blog. A special thanks to the readers of the WSB who have donated!

Christmas Party

Today I went to the Holiday Party at the Young Survival Coalition and was once again reminded of why I'm doing this....like I needed to be reminded. It's just different when it's people you know.

Today's workout....

I have to admit, I had to take a few more seconds of rest than they want you to, haha! This 45 minutes is pretty intense! Here's a snipit of it.

Important Dates

The climb I requested is the Camp Muir/Disappointment Cleaver Route: July 22-24

The Donation Midpoint turn in is April 2nd, 2010. $2500 needs to be turned in at this point.

Today I signed up for the Basic Climbing Course through the Mountaineers.
I'm excited to learn more about climbing...and especially the field trips!
This should help give me extra motivation and knowledge for the Rainier climb.
It will also help in my physical training. :)

Brrrr!

It must be about 25 this morning. Still going to try to do an urban West Seattle hike. Maybe down to Alki and back....with a pack. Yep, I'll be "That Guy" with the full North Face pack walking down the road. :p

But first thing on the list.....to get a Christmas Tree!

Thanks for checking in,

David
